Zdenek grew up in Czechia and gained his MD at the 1st Medical Faculty in Charles University in Prague in 2003.
He undertook clinical training in anaesthesia both in the UK (Southwest Peninsula Deanery and South Yorkshire and Humber Deanery) and Czechia (Prague and Brno).
He passed his specialist exam in Anaesthesia and Intensive care in 2012 and went onto the GMC Specialist register in 2016. After
various clinical fellowships he was appointed as a consultant in the JCUH in Middlesbrough in 2021.
He obtained an MBA in Healthcare Management at Central European Management Institute in Prague in 2016.
He achieved a PhD in 2023 from the Charles University in Prague and has published several articles on haemostasis, adipokines and metabolism of epicardial fat.
He is also accredited in perioperative transoesophageal echocardiography with the British Society of Echocardiography.
In 2024 he moved with his family to Southampton to become a consultant in the UHS NHS UK.
His special interests are perioperative TOE, TEG/ROTEM - based blood management in cardiac surgery and epicardial fat properties.
