Paul Diprose graduated in medicine from Southampton University Medical School in 1993. He initially undertook training in emergency medicine and surgery, becoming a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1998. He subsequently switched to training in anaesthesia and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2000. He undertook training posts throughout the South of England before undertaking a fellowship year in Auckland, New Zealand, and was subsequently appointed to a substantive consultant anaesthesia post in 2006.
His clinical interests include the delivery of adult cardiac anaesthesia and cardiac intensive care, along with the management of patients with complex conditions undergoing other procedures. His private practice includes the delivery of both general anaesthesia and conscious sedation for a wide range of cardiac surgical, cardiology and general surgical procedures. He is experienced in echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart) both for diagnostic and procedural guidance purposes. Research interests include blood conservation techniques and other methods for reducing risk during cardiac surgery.
He has been involved in education for many years and is a recognised educational supervisor by the General Medical Council.
He is an Advanced Life Support instructor and a course medical director for the Resuscitation Council.
Between 2012 and 2024 he was a medical member of the Medical Practitioner Tribunal Service, helping to make decisions regarding the fitness to practise of doctors.
