Nick Goddard was educated at Oxford University (Brasenose College and Green College), qualifying in 2002. He was elected a fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2009, going on to complete a Masters in clinical research (MRes, University of Southampton) in 2013.
He completed his Anaesthesia specialty training in 2014 (Wessex Deanery). He then undertook two further years of subspecialty training in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and intensive care medicine, and became a fellow of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care in 2016. He has worked as a consultant at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHSFT) since 2016.
He undertakes a wide range of general and cardiac cases under sedation, general anaesthesia, and regional anaesthesia, including awake blocks for upper limb surgery and complex aortic anaesthesia. He also undertakes cardiac intensive care medicine, and led this service at UHSFT 2022 - 2024.
He is accredited (British Society of Echocardiography) in perioperative transoesophageal echocardiography. He is an accredited provider of advanced life support (ALS).
