Consultant Anaesthetist
Jonathan trained in medicine at the University of Southampton on their graduate-entry programme, graduating in 2008. He underwent specialist training in anaesthesia in the Wessex region.
He was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2014 and underwent two years of subspecialty fellowships at University Hospital Southampton, firstly in adult cardiac anaesthesia and cardiac intensive care (2016), and subsequently in paediatric anaesthesia (2017).
He has worked as a consultant in adult and paediatric cardiac anaesthesia and adult cardiac intensive care at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) since 2018, where he specialises in the provision of:

Anaesthesia for babies and children of all ages with congenital heart disease, and adults with both acquired or congenital heart disease, requiring cardiac surgery, cardiology or general surgical procedures.

Cardiac intensive care for adults.
His private practice includes the provision of both general anaesthesia or conscious sedation for patients requiring either cardiac surgical, cardiology or general surgical procedures, and the provision of cardiac intensive care.
He has a longstanding interest in teaching and training, having completed postgraduate study in medical education in 2016. He co-leads a successful cardiac anaesthesia senior fellow programme at UHS, having been a GMC-recognised trainer since 2019.
He is a member of the Academy of Medical Educators, an accredited Doctor as Educator with the Royal College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
He was appointed as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Southampton medical school in 2023, through which he is actively involved in the teaching and assessment of medical students.
His research interests relate to blood product transfusion practice.
