Dr James Montague

Consultant Anaesthetist
James Montague grew up in Buckinghamshire and Hong Kong and studied medicine at Cambridge, then Oxford Universities.
He then trained in anaesthesia and intensive care in the Wessex deanery in the south of the UK.
His advanced training was in paediatric anaesthesia and 2 post qualification fellowships in cardiac anaesthesia and intensive care medicine, firstly in Southampton, then Auckland NZ.
He has worked in several countries including New Zealand, Australia and the UK.
James has been a consultant in the UK since 2017 in University Hospital Southampton NHS foundation trust and currently is the lead for training our residents.
He has extensive experience in both congenital cardiac anaesthesia and adult cardiac anaesthesia and cardiac intensive care medicine.
He is a Testamur of the American Board of Echocardiography for transoesophageal echocardiography.
In addition to cardiac surgery and cardiology he is experienced in urology, gynaecological surgery, general surgery, orthopaedics and ENT.
