Consultant Anaesthetist
Dr. Andy Curry is a Consultant in Cardiothoracic Intensive Care and Cardiac Anaesthesia, with subspecialty interests in congenital heart disease in both paediatric and adult patients, as well as advanced cardiovascular support using extracorporeal circuits (ECMO).
Andy trained in medicine at Cambridge University, qualifying in 1998, and holds an MA in Pharmacology.
Since 2008, he has served as a Consultant at University Hospital Southampton, where he is the Lead for Congenital Cardiac Anaesthesia, Lead Anaesthetist for ECMO, and previously held the role of Clinical Lead for Adult Cardiac Intensive Care from 2018 to 2022 during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He coordinates anaesthesia for patients with advanced renal tumours requiring cardiopulmonary bypass for IVC surgery, as well as for patients with pulmonary hypertension or congenital heart disease during pregnancy or undergoing non-cardiac surgery.
Andy is actively involved in education related to cardiac anaesthesia and congenital heart disease, contributing to the work of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA) and the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (APAGBI) within the UK.
Internationally, he collaborates with the Scandinavian Society of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, and the charities ‘Chain of Hope’ and
‘Mission Bambini.’
In 2009, Andy spent a sabbatical year at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, specializing in the care of congenital heart disease patients with single-ventricle circulations.
He is married with four grown-up children, lives in the New Forest, and enjoys photography and motorcycling in his spare time.
